I'm not in Kansas anymore...

Well I had my first experience with the "I'm not in Kansas anymore Todo" syndrome yesterday.  I wanted to take a break from all of my job searching that I have been diligently working on every day.  So I thought I would like to go explore Waterbury.

*a little background on Waterbury.  When we first moved here anytime we asked people about downtown Waterbury they all had the same face expression, which would be the same face expression as if you asked most people do you like brussel sprouts.

The area in Waterbury that Jordan's golf course is in is really nice, and very well to do.  It is on the outskirts of the city, closer to Woodbury then Waterbury.  So we hadn't really explored the downtown area of Waterbury.  I decided to put all the opinions that we had received behind me and see for myself.  So what other place would be better to judge a city on then the Mall.  So I put a cute little outfit on and off I went to the Mall just to peruse and see what it is all about.

As I walk into the Mall my hopes start to go down a bit,  but I decided not to judge yet.  After walking a bit and seeing not one store that I would shop in, I found an H&M.  I thought well this is a good start so I spent a little time in there and then decided I needed to see what else this little Mall offered.  Well I found out that the answer to that was nothing!

So I left with my spirits crushed saying...moral of the story, I don't think I'm going to be spending very much of my time in downtown Waterbury.  At that time is when I realized...I'm not in the big city anymore.

Don't worry about me and my shopping obsession though, I have New York city just an hour and a half away that I can get some shopping therapy in and this weekend I will be in LA!

Staying busy

This weekend was our first weekend just the two, well three, of us here in Woodbury CT.  No guests, no plans, just us fending for ourselves.  Believe it of not we had a great weekend and it was really nice it being just us (but we still love visitors...please come visit).  The weather turned out to be beautiful, after a cold and rainy week so we decided to get outside and do things around woodbury.

Friday night we used our new grill to cook dinner.  I am on the 3rd floor and have a porch but we can't use the grill up on the porch because it is to close to the siding, so we carry the grill down the stairs and cook right outside the door on the lawn.  It turns out to be really nice because we open our windows so you can still smell the grill and we can still chat from the apt to the lawn, so it feels like we are just grilling out in our back yard.  We had a very tasty meal with chicken from the grill out on our patio in the very nice weather.

My apartment is the top windows and the little porch you can see on the corner

Saturday was a pretty laid back day, being it was the first day of Jordan's work.  He was pretty tired after working and I was in a bit of a fog due to muscle relaxants that I was on (I had a back spasm and had to go the doctor, but everything is ok now).  We were able to try a new pizza place in the area though called Pit Road Pizza the whole restaurant is nascar theme, I know pretty classy.  It was new york style pizza with huge slices, but was really good!

Today was a scorcher, 89 degrees, so we thought why not get outside in this warm weather and have a picnic.  So after packing up lunch and doing some research of where the park is in town we took off driving.  About 30 min later we were driving down a dirt road that dead ends into a man's house who was not very happy that we were turning around in his driveway.  It kind of reminded us of a sceen straight out of Deliverance, but we made it out safe with no one chasing after us with a shotgun.  We finally found a very nice park on the other side of Main Street that we were able to have our picnic in.  Zoey really enjoyed doing some sun bathing outside while we ate our lunch.

Tonight we are heading to a restaurant in town called Carmen Anthony's Fishhouse, where on sunday's they have half price bottles of wine!  It's a big night because Jordan doesn't have to be at work until 6am tomorrow instead of 5:30am! So we are planning to do up the town big! ;)

Life in the Grass Lane

Jordan is now officially an employee of the Country Club of Waterbury.  His first day of work was on Sat, May 1st...yes he has to work on the weekends!  It went very well and he ended up loving it.  He has to be at work at 5:30am on weekends and 6:00am on weekdays so that was a bit of a struggle getting up the past couple days to be at work that early.  He came home after his first day of work and only had good and exciting things to say about the job and really liked all the people that he had met so far.  He spent most of the day with the other assistant superintendent and so far they get along really well.

As I said though, it is very early to get up.  He did take a nap after his first day, but today has been soldiering on and hasn't taken a nap yet!  He also told me today "My alarm went off this morning and I thought NO, and then I thought man I have to do this the rest of my life, when am I going to sleep in".  I know after the first week he will already be used to getting up that early though, unlike myself, he is actually good at getting up in the morning!

Before his first day we went to dinner with his boss at the club, last thursday.  We both had so much fun and got to meet a lot of the members that were also eating there.  The club is very nice inside and we ate down in the Pub area which was just renovated.  This was the first time I met his boss and I really liked him.  I can definitely see Jordan and him getting along and working really well together.  They also have a new head chef at the club who came from being head chef at Tom Calicio's restaurant in Las Vegas, so of course the food was amazing!  I guess he has really done a lot already for the dining part of the club, which hadn't been doing very well the past couple of years.  There was some talk about Tom Calicio coming and playing golf at the club sometime...but don't worry if he or any other celebrity comes and plays I will make Jordan take pics!
