Firsts

Well there are firsts for everything, first time even being in Connecticut, first time living in New England,  and this weekend we had a couple of firsts since we have lived in Connecticut.

We had our first group of guests after a week of living here.  Lindsey (my sister), John (brother in law), Becky (1 of 2 sister's that are our best friends), Nick (Becky’s bf), and Cooper (my nephew and Zoey’s cousin) all came to visit us and help break in our new home.

Becky and Nick road the train in from New York and Lindsey and John drove up from Washington D.C.  After picking up Becky and Nick from the train station we took them to a local place, where we already know some of the waitresses, Dottie’s Diner (coming soon a whole post on this diner).  They were able to meet the nice people we were had already met at the diner and also taste the most wonderful donuts ever, Dottie’s homemade donuts.  After this very wholesome lunch we decided we needed a drink so we took a trip out to the middle of nowhere to a local winery, McLaughlin Winery.  At the end a dirt road we saw a beautiful old house on top of a hill with vines and fields surrounding it.  We went in for a tasting which was very fun and we learned a lot about the winery and wines and then because it was a beautiful day decided to have a glass and sit outside in the sun.  Although the wine wasn’t the best we had ever had the settings made up for it, as you can see in these pictures.  This was also the first time that Jordan and I had met Nick so it gave us a great opportunity to grill him and make sure we could let him into our little “cousins” group that the Armor and Jones girls have, we are a pretty tough group to get into.

Lindsey and John arrived and we had a chance to catch up and get warmed up for dinner with some cheese, crackers, and wine.  After fixing ourselves up and getting all pretty we headed off to dinner at a local Woodbury restaurant called John’s Café.  We had heard it was a small restaurant with only about 15 tables, but for some reason still decided that our group would be ok here.  A little fyi if you don’t know the Armor and Jones girls, we can get really loud and usually end up getting looks from surrounding tables even if we are at a large restaurant.  John’s Café ended up being excellent, the food, wine, atmosphere, and everything else was absolutely wonderful.  Although halfway through dinner we started to notice that a couple of the tables around us were starting to give us looks as our decibels got louder and louder.  By the end of our dinner we had pretty much the whole restaurant staring us down.  We decided it was probably time for us to leave these poor diners to their peaceful meals so we stood up to leave.  Walking out though was like a walk of shame…the restaurant grew silent and people followed us with their eyes out of the place.

We had a toast to our visitors, new home, and almost getting kicked out of a restaurant

So not only was this a first for visitors, but it was the first for getting stared out of the restaurant and almost getting kicked out of our adorable small town.  But for those of your who do know the Armor and Jones girls…are you surprised?
Over all it was a wonderful weekend with out first group of guests and we can’t wait for our next round.

P.S. Don’t worry Nick, you passed the Jones girl test and you totally fit in with this group!

  1. Melissa, you and Jordan were great hosts!

You didn't mention "G Dubs" - the George Washington Tavern in Washington, CT. That was the one place that, surprisingly, didn't want to kick us out. Actually, I think our table was drinking the least out of everyone else in the restaurant. And that CHILI!
